Earnings per share or EPS is a financial measure, which indicates the profitability of a company. It is calculated by dividing the company’s net income by its total number of outstanding shares. However, if the company has preference shares, the payment to those holders needs to be deducted from the company's profit before dividing by the outstanding shares.
